Get Your Local Government into a Virtual World

If you are a local, state or even national government official interested in virtual worlds, you can get your own piece of digital realestate at GovGrid. A virtual immersive environment constructed strictly for governments.

As the site says:

GovGrid is a 3D, multi-user virtual world created to connect government and engage citizens. Built on OpenSim software, GovGrid offers those working in or for government the opportunity to explore virtual worlds in a safe and familiar environment

The prices are government friendly as well, government officials can choose from one of three plans.

Introductory--This plan is open to anyone working for a government agency at any level: local, state, or federal. This plan provides a store-front in the GovGrid Town Hall region where you can set up a virtual office or create a showcase for your agency. There is no cost for this option; however, there are limited spaces and each space is granted for a 6-month period

Regional Plan–Open to anyone working in or for government (even government vendors and consultants.) By choosing this plan, the government agency will own region in which to build and create. A region measures 256 m by 256 m (65,536 sq m) and holds 15,000 prims or 3D objects. The only requirement is that the build must be related in some way to your work in or for government. The cost for this plan is $25 a month with a $50 setup fee.

World Plan–This plan is open to anyone working in or for government. Vendors and consultants working for government are also welcome. Initial World Plans begin with 4 regions at a cost of $75 per month ($220 setup fee) but can be increased to any number needed. Your agency’s space can remain in GovGrid or be hosted separately with a hyperlink, or teleport path, back to GovGrid.

We are actually doing some e-learning for some government clients at Bloomsburg University and are considering GovGrid as an interesting prospect.
