Three Views on #Gamification

Here are three different and sometimes opposing views of Gamification. You probably have seen this all before but I thought it was worth bringing them together in one location.

The first is by Jesse Schell at the 2010 DICE conference. He did present the concept somewhat “tongue in cheek” but it is still an interesting idea to contemplate and to think of the ramifications and danger of this extreme.

Here is a view from Amy Jo Kim. Her view is to look at Gamification as more of a Journey.

Here is the view from Ian Bogost who is a researcher, designer, and critic who focuses on videogames. He’s a professor at Georgia Tech and a founding partner of Persuasive Games, a videogame studio.

He doesn’t have a lecture, instead, he provides a short treaties of the subject.

Gamification is Bullshit.

Take a look at all three views and see which most accurately fits your view or which combination of views fit your idea of gamification.
