Engaging Ideas for Designing Learning Videos

Here are some video techniques for creating a learning piece that caught my eye in terms of creativity and delivering a learning message. You may want to consider using some of these techniques for your own instructional design and delivery. It is always a good idea to mix up techniques to keep presentation styles fresh and engaging.

Here is a clever one created by Google that uses elements of story and of a game-board to present information on a serious subject. Fun to watch.

Thanks to Mark Copeman for putting this out.

Here is one that uses a book as a basic for helping the learner understand the origin of words. This one is for the term “Robot.” Really interesting use of stop motion imaging.

Here is one with a great comic book approach.

Here is a classic stop animation video done in a clever way. Made by CommonCraft who do great videos.

Finally, here is an example of the whiteboard video which is a good way to present information.

So next time you are thinking of creating a video for inclusion in your elearning, consider some of these ideas.

BONUS: Here is one where the son’s dad is a special effects guy. Unexpected but cool results.

I appreciate all the helpful information I find on your blog. It is very helpful to me as I am studying Instructional Design and Technology at Walden University. My current class is Multimedia Design, and your blog has been referenced several times in our discussion posting.
I have bookmarked this posting so that I am able to return to it.
Thanks again for your wonderful blog.
