Unsuccessful: Unable to save the middle school from the flood

Yesterday I wrote about how myself and my two boys went down to sandbag a bridge to help to save the Danville Middle School from flooding, we worked for several hours and the wall of sandbags appeared strong and ready to withstand the flood but, unfortunately, at 3:00 AM this morning, the sandbag wall was breached.

Middle School flooded by rising waters in spite of our best efforts.

I learned about it this morning and its very sad.

The sandbag wall that held until 3:00 AM.

The middle school had about 1.5 feet of water. The sad pictures tell the story.

Three Quarters of the sandbag wall held, the section over the railroad tracks did not.

Need a boat to go to the school. With all the water flooding the building.

Emergency crews launching the boat to survey the damage.

I’m sorry to hear about Danville. I did hear that area got hit hard. I was sending messages to all my friends in Wilkes-Barre to get updates when an email came in from BU. I was like wow.

I have seen lost of pictures, I haven’t seen the Susquehanna River Valley FB page but I will check that out shortly, the flooding is, apparently, a foot or two higher than the ’72 flood and higher than 2006, I missed both of the previous floods as I was in another geographic location but was here for this flood, it is scary how much damage water can do. Thanks for your thoughts we appreciated it.

Oh, Karl, I know exactly where that is – we lived in Lewisburg and Curt worked in Danville for a brief time in ’06 – 07. Did you see the photo montage / video on the Susquehanna River Valley FB page? Maybe you’re in the photos of the folks bagging sand in Danville? I’ve been watching this from Maryland and my thoughts go out to you and all residents of Danville, Bloom, Milton, the whole river Valley, and further south, too, towards Clarks Ferry and Harrisburg. It’s truly stunning.
