Thank You, Thank You for Kickstarter Backing

2K_ThankYou

What a crazy ride the last few weeks have been. As you may know, I have co-founded a company called 2K Learning and we decided to try Kickstarter to fund part of our company’s birth.

It worked, it did not seem like it was going to work for over 26 days into the event but, it worked!!!

So first of all, this post is to thank all those who graciously supported the “seemingly doomed” Kickstarter campaign. It was doomed with less than four days to go and within those four days, we were able to raise $4,000 saving the project. So thanks.

This was due to tremendous support and not just monetary support. We received a great deal of encouragement and goodwill from a number of people who left inspiring messages that really help boost our spirits and make the campaign a success. Or who personally offered assistance, ideas and encouragement. Some from individuals who had recently started a company themselves and are just a year or so ahead of where we are.

Here is a list of all our backers. You people ROCK!

Next, we got great encouragement related to what we are doing. The Play/Make spirit of our project has resonated with a number of educators and educational institutions. We are hard at work talking with those folks and helping them to better understand what we are creating and how we can link what we are doing to classrooms all over. (if we haven’t gotten to you yet, we soon will).

We have also spent our time applying for other funding as well in hopes of leveraging what we are doing even more vastly. We are committed to boot-strapping the organization so we aren’t seeking any venture funds, we really are looking for other, more organic, methods of growing and expanding so we can stay focused on our core mission of making learning of science and engineering fun and engaging and helping

Each of our backers received a cool badge they can post on social media (and we hope they do)

So you might ask, “How did you raise $4,000” in four days with Kickstarter? The answer is personal connections. We reached out to people we have worked with before, people who we have helped and who have helped us and people who care deeply and passionately about education. Most of these people are members of the training community and care about learning at all levels. These people really stepped up.

We sent a simple email message to dozens of people:

Hey, wondering if you’d be interested in taking a moment and backing my Kickstarter:) If you can spare $10 (or more) that’d be great as well. Trying to get 400 people to donate at least $10 each. Only 3 days left and I am way, way behind

The message worked, most people donated much more than $10 and every little bit helped. We had eight people donate $300 or more dollars. We are grateful to these folks and to everyone who donated.

So, what are we doing now? We are hard at work fulfilling the various levels of the backer promises, meeting with interested parties and enjoying the enthusiasm that will soon make Play/Make a dominate method of instruction in forward thinking classrooms.

Again, thank you for your trust and belief in the project, we look forward to wonderful things…such as more interactive video-games, board games and other educational “toys” that will break the mold of testing and re-testing.

Stay tuned for cool stuff and stop by and check us out at 2K Learning.
